Design Guild Book Club: The Art of Gathering
At The Design Guild, we are learners. Whether it’s skills, trends, people to follow, new ways of seeing, new approaches to strategy, we know that learning in conversation is more valuable than learning in isolation. Design doesn’t happen alone, and neither does good thinking. This quarter, we’re launching a Design Guild book club as a simple way to create space for shared reading, reflection, and dialogue.
Book club aligns with our working model because I believe we work better when we slow down and think together. The book selections won’t always be about design in a literal sense, but they will always relate—directly or indirectly—to how we collaborate, communicate, and for the communities we serve.
This is an open invitation. Guild members are welcome, as are people interested in becoming part of the Guild, clients, friends, and fellow curious thinkers. If you know someone who would enjoy the conversation, feel free to invite them.
Reading is intentionally minimal. You’re welcome to read the entire book, but it’s not required. Participation doesn’t hinge on completion. Discussion will be grounded in selected passages, not coverage.
This Quarter’s Selection
The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker

All participants are responsible for purchasing their own copy of the book.
For our first conversation, I’m suggesting the following sections:
Introduction
Chapter 1: Decide Why You’re Really Gathering
Chapter 3: Don’t Be a Chill Host
A skim is fine. Come having read a little—or simply come curious.
Things to consider while reading
Where did you feel yourself nodding along, and where did you feel resistance?
What gatherings in your work life feel intentional, and which feel defaulted?
How does intention—or the absence of it—shape participation and outcomes?
What responsibility does a “host” carry in creative or collaborative work?
